We are a vibrant, creative and passionate architectural practice based in Brisbane, Australia.
First established in 2016, we see ourselves as the next link, inspired by - and walking in the footsteps of - generous, creative and selfless architects who have practiced before us.
Architects who may not necessarily be esteemed or celebrated, who may or may not be exhibited or featured in coffee table books,
but in pursuing great design they have quietly, unassumingly touched countless lives in their craft and service.
We are intentional and counter-cultural in our work - in how we serve our clients, in how we relate as a team, how we advocate for those in need, and how we gauge our success.
Our buildings are a physical outcome of our passion - to see people live well, to come home to an environment of peace and rest,
and thus empowered to demonstrate generous hospitality.
Our Values
People
To creatively and intentionally seek what’s authentically good for the client, for co-workers, for the community. To be understanding, dependable, attentive and trustworthy, working with the client from beginning to end. To see inherent worth in the people we interact with. To share joy and praise if it comes, knowing we can’t deliver a building alone.
Nature
Buildings designed with connection to the garden as a starting point. Spaces are formed “from the outside in”, and key views help to define the architectural response.
The building is quiet and a frame for nature to speak – so that the client/user is invited to slow down and contemplate their place in the world. This ensures better design outcomes, and buildings that exist in a complimentary way to their surroundings.
Timelessness
Light, breezes, greenery – these are gifts to us, and they provide a sense of rest and refreshment – “true luxury” - that money can’t buy.
In an industry based on facades, fads and fake veneers, the desire is to stand for authenticity in materiality and expression.
In opposition to an Instagram-fuelled hyperactive world where buildings are judged within two seconds on its immediate “wow” factor, the design aim is to exude quality in a quiet way that endures and appreciates over time.
Generosity
Being intentional in investing time in, and training up, young Architects and students. Devoting time and resources to teaching and impactful thought and action, knowing that the pursuit of good and beauty has deeper worth and meaning.
Meet the Ever Studio team
Billy Lam
Director and Architect
Born in Hong Kong but raised in Brisbane, Billy is passionate about serving people through intentional and purposeful design. After a six-month volunteer stint with Swiss Architect Martin Aerne in Cambodia in 2015, Billy established Ever Architecture Studio in 2016 to design homes and buildings that are marked by a sense of peace derived from connection to nature. Each project reflects a deep-seated desire to help - to get to know, understand and design for the good of clients and their families, to design homes that uplift and reflect people’s cultures and desires, and to celebrate the opportunity to cultivate and make something beautiful in a specific place.
Since our inception, he has completed a range of new build and renovation projects from mid-range to high-end across South East Queensland.

Funnily enough, I can run this studio but I still get ID checked every time I want a drink! I’ve never really been a good fit for society’s boxes, but I’ve learnt that it is our strength. We don’t need to try and emulate anyone else. As an Architect it’s very freeing because there’s a lot about the profession that I don’t like (the snobbery, the fake-it-til-you-make it, the Euro or Nippon-centricity etc). We get to redefine what we want to stand for, and to work without the fakery and pretense.
I have genuinely come to see the value in our work as helping people. We take what we know, and our passion for design, and we use it to help our clients navigate a time that can be stressful and seemingly treacherous. At the end of my career success will be measured in the people I have uplifted along the way - building owners and users, yes, but also our staff, collaborators, builders, suppliers and others we meet as we pursue our craft.
This doesn’t mean that we are soft on design, but it’s a fundamental mind shift. Too often Designers and Architects are tempted to create beauty for the sake of fame or recognition, and I don’t feel that it’s in the client’s interest for us to think this way. Instead, each time we are called to design we question “what does it mean to make sense of this place?” And by place, it’s not only a location - but to be alive in a particular moment in time, and to cultivate something to make it beautiful.
It’s a deep question - and so a building is never about the four walls and the roof, or the features within. It’s about people wanting to find belonging and purpose. Those are deep thoughts, and we believe in our pursuit of Architecture there is an essence of redemption - making good the broken, and helping our site, surroundings, suburb and city become more like what it was intended to be. And that’s why each project is genuinely special to us, regardless of budget or scope.
What a privilege it is that we get to pursue this in beautiful Australia - I hope to never lose the wonder that I felt when I moved here from urbanised Hong Kong as an eight year old.
All this said, I’ve never expected clients to think the same way as I or we do - only to know that we think deeply about what we’re doing, and that we are here to walk with you the entire way.

Frankie Lau
Architect
Frankie recently joined the EVER team in February 2024 and brings considerable experience in Multi-Residential, Education and Commercial projects. He is a gentle and calming influence within our office, working with a quiet determination and a strong desire to help, and his experience in the design and delivery of larger buildings allows us to bring a new dimension of service to our residential and non-residential clients alike.

Roy Nien

Roy joined EVER in 2020. We secretly joke that Roy is our “secret weapon” - but his input has been invaluable in helping us communicate what we do, and what we stand for, across print and digital platforms.
Roy was born in Taiwan and has a Master of Business (Integrated Marketing and Communications) from Queensland University of Technology. At times in the past he’s been an army sergeant, restaurant manager, and a bartender.
Today you may find him helping out at EVER as our in-house branding expert, videographer and sometime-photographer, social media, website and SEO nerd, and coffee-making extraordinaire. He also counts music stars and automative brands amongst his videography clientele.
